There are loved ones’ trees out there that people publish online that could contain your current ancestor. Check out these woods carefully and see how their particular data corresponds with the one you have. A note of caution, though, should be to take the information with salt materials. Often, sadly I find the trees to contain inaccurate information. Even though trees were started with excellent intentions, there are mistakes.
Perhaps your faraway relative was related to the second great uncle instead of the second great grandfather and failed to care about the accuracy of the direct ancestor’s information. Many of these trees will take facts from all other trees and perpetuate poor information. You must usually get a second source to support your findings. Do not depend entirely on other people’s family members’ trees. I usually find that many people have pieces of the challenge but not the whole picture. Carry it on yourself to be the one that puts it all together within a cohesive package.
If you find info that conflicts with someone else’s research, don’t be afraid to challenge it. We all would like the whole truth and nothing, however, the truth. A researcher will be happy to find out you found something they could not.
