Dear Phone Company

Dear PacBell SBC ATT,

If you are going to request I fill out a trouble report on the web, please let me know your service is down before I enter all my data.

PS: Why does my phone break once/year? Is POTS really this difficult? Time for VOIP?

The finest way to appreciate ma bell is to switch to VOIP. Not only would you have to worry about latency during calls but your phone service is now dependent on your internet connection and electricity service. (My least reliable service the last 5 years, hands down, has been my ISP). I'm not even going to get into your ISP screwing you with QoS games.

The reason why I still pay for telephone service is that during the Loma Prieta earthquake the power was out, but the phone still worked. The phone almost always works independent of most everything else and I'll continue to pay for the service until its proven to me this is no longer the case.

At the end of the day, I do not think I could ever flat out drop the POTS line. I actually want the cops/paramedics/etc to find me when I dial 911!

I would consider switching to a local-only plan and dropping vmail/caller-id/etc and supplement that with a voip plan. It would probably be a similar cost amount and potentially give me more call features.

Or, I could just move somewhere that had good cell reception.
