It's Go Time
The "aquabike" aka swim-bike-stop is 11 hours away. My gear is packed, and thanks to "the list", I actually remembered all my race gear!
At this point, I can't help but think about everything that I have done wrong. Let's see--the list includes:
Time to start practicing my pre-race insomnia.
At this point, I can't help but think about everything that I have done wrong. Let's see--the list includes:
- No wetsuit swimming
- No openwater swims
- No swim-bike workouts
- No t1 practice
- Yadda, yadda, yadda
Time to start practicing my pre-race insomnia.

Hey did you do the Vineman Aquabike, how about the nonexistent finish, I have emailed the race director and USAT about how disappointed I was at the nonevent of the Aquabike event! Jump on!
Yup. I did the half.
The finish was lame, but I kinda expected that. Hopefully that will be worked out in the future. I was more disgruntled about the lack of signage. For example:
o The out and back on the bike was only for the full, but unless you asked or went to a pre-race meeting, you would not know any better. A cheap sign could have prevented this. (Half turn here!)
o The turn-in for the finish was not clear. The volunteers tried sending us for another lap. Once again, a sign could have resolved this.
The finish did suck, "rack your bike and get the hell out of the way", but I was just happy I got to complete a race without a long walk or a DNF.
Anyway, I do plan on emailing both USAT and Vineman. With some constructve criticism, I am sure that can improve the platform.
